Carr is the Senior of the Week after leading Fresno State to a 41-40 victory over Boise State, breaking the Bulldogs’ seven-game losing streak against the Broncos. Carr completed 39 of 60 passes for 460 yards and four touchdowns. Fresno State appeared in the AP poll for the first time in five years after the victory, standing 25th in this week’s poll. Carr’s brother, David Carr, also played quarterback at Fresno State and played in the Senior Bowl before becoming the No. 1 selection in the 2002 draft. Murray is the Senior Bowl Alumnus of the Week after he led the Cowboys to a 31-7 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Murray rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown. And so does the criticism that is directed the Cowboys’ way. But tell me: How badly should we criticize a player who represents 29% of the total offensive yards gained so far by Dallas? Murray has had the ball for 199 of the 685 yards gained from scrimmage this season. Second place goes to Dez Bryant with 163. The problem here is that people forget Murray catches the ball, too. Plus he is a key part of the pass protection for Romo when he is not out in the pattern. Given those numbers, I wouldn’t be frustrated, at least with my own performance. Pro Football Focus does take all aspects of his game into account, which is why they have him ranked as the eighth best running back right now. And their ranking fully acknowledges his lack of success in running the ball, with a -2.1 score there.

Is DeMarco Murray another Julius Jones?

Jones rushed for 722 yards and seven touchdowns in the final six games of his rookie season, including performances of 198, 150 and 149 yards. That, however, was the high point of his career. In his second season, Jones only had one 100-yard game. He was serviceable, not spectacular, the next two years and was overshadowed by Marion Barber by the final season of his rookie contract. Jones rushed for a total of 3,484 yards and 18 touchdowns during his four-year Dallas tenure, falling far short of the elite expectations his rookie stardom set. Those numbers might compare favorably to Murrays when his rookie deal expires next season. What a disappointment that would be for a back who burst onto the scene with a franchise-record 253 yards in his first game as an NFL feature back. He followed that up with a pair of 130-plus yard performances over the next few weeks, giving him a four-game total of 601 yards, by far the most in franchise history over a 16-quarter span. Murray, who has rushed for 1,671 yards and six touchdowns in 25 career games, has a grand total of one 100-yard outing in 16 games since then. Hes been held under 50 yards seven times during that span.
